In the design of transmission line engineering, in addition to the selection of conductor and ground wire, the selection of tower type should be emphatically considered. The following aspects shall be considered for the selection of tower type.

  • Single circuit or multi circuit tower type of the same tower shall be selected. With the continuous development of the national economy, the number of transmission lines using double circuit (or multiple circuit) with the same tower is increasing, especially the medium and low voltage lines. Whether the overhead transmission lines use double circuit (or multiple circuit) with the same tower or not should mainly consider the following points:

  1. For double circuit (or multiple circuit) transmission lines from the same power point to the same load point, the same tower shall be considered in general, except for special or particularly important and weak power supply network;

  2. When the lines at different power supply points or different load points are located in the same corridor and the corridor is limited, double circuit (or multiple circuits) on the same tower shall also be considered generally;

  3. Urban lines are generally coordinated with the power grid planning of the whole city. In order to save land, double circuits (or multiple circuits) should be combined with towers.

  • (2) When crossing the goaf, in order to prevent the impact of uneven settlement on the tower, single circuit tower or single-phase (pole) split tower can be considered.

  • (3) If the loop crosses the forest area, if the tree crossing scheme is adopted, the poles and towers with horizontal arrangement of conductors (such as wine cup tower); if the tree cutting scheme is adopted, the triangular arrangement with narrow distance between lines (such as cat head tower) or vertical arrangement of poles and towers (such as e-tower) should be adopted.

  • (4) Poles and towers with conductors arranged horizontally and symmetrically should be adopted for lines in heavy ice area.
